On Monday morning, Facebook went offline, along with its subsidiaries, Instagram, WhatsApp, and FB Messenger. The world-leading social media site has not had an outage in years, and has functioned relatively free of glitches for quite a while.
Facebook published a tweet at 12:22 apologizing for the outage:
Some social media users are wondering whether last night’s whistleblower report has anything to do with the outage. The Associated Press reported last night that Facebook turned off safeguards and promoted misinformation, fueling the January 6th protest in DC:

This comes as alternative pro-liberty social media platforms have been rapidly growing over the past few months, including Flote, MeWe, Gab, Parler, Minds, Odysee, Mastodon, and others.
Some Twitter users are gloating that Twitter is up and Facebook is down. Facebook is many multiples larger than Twitter, though Twitter punches well above its weight due to its high number of active users who are very political.

UPDATE: So much web traffic moved to Twitter that its servers were overwhelmed, causing the site to have functional issues for many users.
