A siege at the capital, a global pandemic, financial revolution, and the “great purge” on social media is how the year 2021 began for America. In this new landscape that appears to be a waking nightmare, the internet and some parts of our country have undoubtedly become a war zone. The internet, weaponized by hackers, misinformation, and the very worst of humanity are displayed on our feeds 24/7. Our communities, suffering, some burnt to the ground due to the unrest. In all this chaos, the greatest fear we should hold in our hearts is the capacity of human emotion driven by desperation, isolation, and rage. These are the emotions that lead to behaviors that dismantle civil society and open us all to the potentials of civil war and/or genocide.

As we watched in horror at what happened to the capitol on January 6th, which appeared to be a breaking point for our nation, it became clear we are in an entirely new territory. After countless years of escalation, this political battle is no longer about Trump, it’s now about his 74 million-plus followers. All deemed to be a plague of white supremacists and fascists that must be rectified, erased, or re-educated for the survival of our democracy. Any action of suppression or aggression against these individuals has now been given the green light and justified. The Classification of Trump supporters, many of whom were at the capital but did not engage in the violence, are being doxxed. This gives access for potential violent and dangerous mobs to storm people’s homes and destroy lives.

It’s strange to see the left lose themselves to their hatred for the Symbolization of those who support the American flag and its values. The vindication of destroying or targeting businesses, books, events, or individuals for a different set of ideas is astounding and should horrify any American. All of these actions are justified and encouraged by politicians, the media, and our culture. The spectrum of human emotions has led us to such extreme division that acts of violence and the horrendous Discrimination of people’s lives and political beliefs have become the norm.

It appears we are on the verge of something drastically different than what has been the prior reality of people born and raised in America. It’s a general feeling of being on the verge of a hostile episode of an apocalypse series. One you see in the films; officers shoot a man on the streets, the city becomes engulfed in flames, people being targeted and arrested for their beliefs, opinions, and acts of self-preservation. People being fired for political opinions, canceled, shamed, and exiled. All too often in the year 2020, we saw this story on repeat and now this behavior is in hyperdrive. We are all caught in the crossfire of politics, culture wars, and a broken system.

Many keep asking, what does this type of social climate lead to? More than ever cancel culture, and dehumanization towards white people, republicans, and conservatives are at an all-time high. So how does this impact people on an individual level? When you are banned from social media, it doesn’t just take away your voice, it takes away your livelihood, your business, your work, your ability to connect with the world.

We can see this play out on an individual level in the life of a man by the name of Jack Murphy. The organization of militant ANTIFA groups worked to destroy this man’s life. In 2015, he started a blog  utilizing his freedom of speech to explore different ideas and concepts he found of interest. He was an active MAGA supporter, not a Nazi out in the streets killing Jews. In 2016, he spoke about a new movement filled with democrats, libertarians, and people from across the spectrum who were all tired of the political status quo and found inspiration in Trump’s platform.

One day, he participated in an event with some friends. They decided to get together and do an “escape room”, Chelsea Manning was there and at the end of the event, photos were taken. Sometime after one of the photos went viral. Chelsea Manning posing with MAGA Alt-right Nazis was a scandal the left could not ignore. Shortly after, Jack Murphy was labeled by ANTIFA as a Nazi and was made public enemy number one. Jack Murphy overnight became a hunted man. The assault on his livelihood leaked into every crevice of his life. He was doxxed, smeared, fired, made to be seen as a racist, and a character assassination that matches that of those who stood up against the machine of Soviet Russia. The revolutionaries were out for what they deemed to be justice and Jack Murphy was the victim they sought to cripple.

The ACLU was interested in the story and the legal director wanted to take the case. But the ACLU board was polarized by discontent for those on the right to reject it. The social justice warriors had officially taken over the ACLU and did not pick up this first amendment case because they didn’t want to offend their BLM associates. Jack was even suspended from coaching his son’s little league team. The revolutionaries took his job, career, livelihood, reputation, and most importantly time with his son. What if there comes a time that all of this loss is not enough? Jack is still alive, in fact he’s flourishing. All the struggle pushed him to entirely new heights of success. So what now? How long until this type of online persecution isn’t enough.

Currently, we are seeing the preparation for a nationwide counter-terrorism campaign. At what point will it be a lust for literal bloodshed in the streets, not just the crippling of people’s livelihood? The progressive persecution is coming for the right, for the debts they owe for the last four years, and must be made to pay for the entirety of all the sins of our nation. It is rare this day and age to hear of a democrat or leftists sharing this experience, you never hear of a Joe Biden supporter being targeted and murdered. The targeted victim group, whose voices are silenced, characters smeared, and humanity said to be compared to fascists, cockroaches, and rats are conservatives and republicans. This is the language that calls for the extermination, if this rhetoric is not condemned it will undoubtedly be an age of reckoning for those on the right.

My hypothesis is that we are witnessing societal precursors to an ideological and/or physical genocide. How many countless bodies have been metaphorically burned at the stake for stepping out of line? Countless, growing, soon to be millions of microaggressions piled one on top of the other until literal blood pours in the streets. At that point, no one will be able to stop the wave of carnage set to impact generations to come.

There is a man from whom this hypothesis was inspired, yet I believe we have a fundamental disagreement on who the victim group will be. He’s an expert on the topic and works with governments around the world to help prevent, intervene, or end genocide. His name is Dr. Gregory H. Stanton, the president and founder of Genocide Watch, an international organization.

I reached out to interview Dr. Stanton, and at first we had a very open conversation over the phone. During our conversation, he stated we are currently in stage five of the originally 8 (now ten) stages of genocide. He agreed to an interview but asked to not be made to comment on either the political left or right’s current actions as he was working with high-level officials and did not want to polarize himself to one side or the other. I asked him to comment on the actions being taken by leftist revolutionaries and the risk factors of a conservative genocide. Stanton never responded to my email with the interview questions. When I called to touch base, he immediately stated that there would be no interview and he was done with the conversation.

KAYLA - conservative genocide with text in it

I feel Stanton is out of touch with our current political landscape. In September of 2020, he wrote an article on the dangers of QAnon. He stated in the article, “The world has seen QAnon before. It was called Nazism. In QAnon, Nazism wants a comeback” essentially summarizing all the talking points of the left.

What if the founder of an international coalition against genocide was wrong? What if the Trump supporters, Republicans, and conservatives were the next victim group to experience genocide? He feels QAnon is one of the greatest threats to our democracy. While many can argue that the storming of the capital on January 6th is proof, it is my opinion that what we saw was Trump’s followers’ last public outcry. The silencing, targeting, and victimization of their rights have only just begun. According to Stanton’s ten steps of genocide:

1. Classification: “us” versus “them,” exclusion from citizenship

2. Symbolization: IDs, naming, color, language, yellow stars

3. Discrimination: exclusion from voting, jobs, civil rights

4. Dehumanization: calling people criminals, terrorists, vermin, cockroaches

5. Organization: hate groups, armed militias, mobs

6. Polarization: hate radio and TV, social media hate campaigns

7. Preparation: planning, violent attacks, coups d’état

8. Persecution: ghettos, starvation, untreated epidemics, trial massacres, terrorism

9. Extermination: mass murders, genocide

10. Denial: Big Lies denying or justifying crimes

It’s amazing to see the founder refusing to recognize the republicans and conservatives on this scale. For example, Congresswoman Maxine Waters publicly dehumanized Trump’s staff by urging Democrats and the left to the mob and humiliate any Trump cabinet members they saw in public. The Media and elites publicly talked about guillotines, torture of conservatives, and violence against Trump supporters and conservatives which is discrimination, dehumanization, and persecution. Rhetoric like AOC calling to make archives of “Trump sycophants’ ‘ is the type of rhetoric that drives people to prepare and to act against these groups systematically. The thing is, AOC doesn’t have to lift a finger to make it happen, she just needs to talk about it publicly. According to global genocide watch “The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda was the first international tribunal to hold members of the media responsible for inciting the public to commit genocide.” There must be safeguards and accountability put into place to make sure we do not normalize violence against others, no matter who they are.

A perfect example of accountability is Michael Beller, the Principal Counsel for PBS. Project Veritas caught him on film stating, “We go for all the Republican voters, and Homeland Security will take their children away.” This is genocidal rhetoric and he was fired the same day the footage came out. This type of accountability is how we take back our democracy and return to civil society.

As we enter into this year we face a new movement on the horizon. A financial revolution, one that does not divide against color, race, gender, or ethnicity. But one that highlights the divides between the poor and the rich. Class warfare is very well in motion, the target is the hedge funds, the banks, stock markets and corrupt financial systems. Activists putting their money where their mouth is in a new era of financial activism. As we saw with AMC, DOGE, and GAMESTOP, there were no party lines. It was not about the left vs the right. It was people, connected, together, with organized rage in fighting financial corruption and injustice. One thing is for certain, divided we fall, but together we stand. There must be a way to progress while still conserving the founding cornerstones and strengths of this country without tearing each other limb from limb, and it feels like financial activism and liberation is key in moving forward.

Currently, the conservatives and republicans feel hunted, targeted, and attacked although both sides feel victimized in some form. Whether it’s due to past histories of this country or current events of today that have wounded or harmed either side, it is up to progressives and conservatives to condemn genocidal speech/actions and move forward together in the realms of financial activism that hits the pockets of those who divide us. Let us not ever get to the point that blood is split due to the difference of ideology whether and on an individual level or mass scale. Let us rise, reclaim our future, our humanity, and never forget those who profit from our collective demise.

“During the Holocaust, Nazis referred to Jews as rats. Hutus involved in the Rwanda genocide called Tutsis cockroaches. Slave owners throughout history considered slaves subhuman animals. In Less Than Human, David Livingstone Smith argues that it’s important to define and describe dehumanization, because it’s what opens the door for cruelty and genocide”

“The Holocaust is the most thoroughly documented example of the ravages of dehumanization. Its hideousness strains the limits of imagination. And yet, focusing on it can be strangely comforting. It’s all too easy to imagine that the Third Reich was a bizarre aberration, a kind of mass insanity instigated by a small group of deranged ideologues who conspired to seize political power and bend a nation to their will. Alternatively, it’s tempting to imagine that the Germans were (or are) uniquely cruel and bloodthirsty people. But these diagnoses are dangerously wrong. What’s most disturbing about the Nazi phenomenon is not that the Nazis were madmen or monsters. It’s that they were ordinary human beings.”

But the history of how “infestation” has been used politically shows that the distinction is blurrier than they would like to admit.
