New Hampshire seems to have the best economy of all 50 states in the union, judging by income, unemployment, and opportunity. The average income per resident in the live free or die state is 20% higher than the union’s average. The largest limiting factor is economic regulation, most of which comes from the federal government. Without infinite job-killing regulations coming from DC, NH’s economy would likely soar to unprecedented heights.
At the hearing, pro-independence citizens filled the room and told the Representatives about the dozens of reasons we should be allowed to vote on independence. Only one citizen spoke against the legislation, and his most substantive argument was that we can’t split up the union because we are all Americans who just need to ‘come together’.
Back in August 2021, during a special meeting of the Legislative Fiscal Committee, it was approved to use $1.5 million from the federal ‘American Rescue Plan’ for regional planning commissions to do a needs assessment on housing across the state and to hire a project manager to implement a three-year strategic plan to improve housing stability. It seems that our state legislatures are fully involved in carrying out the federal government’s dirty work when it comes to housing.

Many people rightfully fear that once we cut ties to DC, they may not be able to travel to other states for work or pleasure. Of course, many New Hampshire citizens do work in Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont. Many also travel to other states to see family or for vacations.
Without the federal government, how would the tiny Republic of New Hampshire remain safe from foreign threats and hostile world powers? We would be living in the smallest country in the world, and we would not have the money or manpower for a serious military, right?
If New Hampshire cut ties to DC and no longer participated in the union, what would we use for currency? Many people have asked this question, and some have openly admitted to being afraid of how we would function as a society without using ‘the mighty dollar’.

A friend of mine asked me that question on the day of the historic hearing on CACR32, the legislation that would place the question of independence on the ballot if passed by the legislature. She supports liberty and state independence, but she was seriously concerned that we may not have any police if we cut ties with DC.
That exact question was asked by a state legislator during the historic first public hearing in a legislative body on the question of independence in at least 160 years. While it may sound extreme, it is a reasonable question.
